Waiting on Wednesday – DEADLOCKED by Charlaine Harris

I don’t think this choice is original and I know a lot of people are waiting for it.  The Sookie Stackhouse series was the one that really introduced me to the UF/PNR genre.  Sure, I read Anne Rice when I was younger but it was this series that brought me back full force into the world of vamps and shifters.  Now, I’ve been a bit disappointed with some of the last releases in the series.  In fact, I need to read the book before Deadlocked in order to catch up.  But I have renewed hope that this one will take me back to the Sookie of yesteryear based on some of the advance reviews I’ve seen.  Without further ado…Sookie #12:

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:

With Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), in town, it’s the worst possible time for a body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

What are you waiting on?

Let’s get to reading!

I think I read in your ABOUT text that Sookie was the series that made you pick up other UF novels (again) or something, so I can see where you are coming from. I’d always pick up a Kim Harrison novel, even if the latest releases were not as good as the books that hooked me up in the first place.

I’m curious about where Harris will go with the series. I haven’t read the 11th book, and don’t remember much from the books before, but I’ll probably catch up once the last one is released or maybe even earlier. 🙂

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea it was coming out shortly and I’ve read all the others. I am hoping this series will just end, as I hate waiting on the next book to be released!

Yes, it’s coming out really soon! I have to read the one before Deadlocked to get caught up. 😉

It really is one of those cornerstone series, no? Thanks so much for visiting!

Sarah, read them! They are great! Especially the early ones.

Can you believe that I have not read a single Charlaine Harris book? I actually bought her first book and let it go for so long that there were a bunch more books out, the hype was out of the bag, and… You know how that is? I really should take some time and try to read her series. I see that there is a challenge/read-along to read all of her books in a year.

You must remedy this! The first books in the series are great. I did have some issues with the last few but the start of the series – I could not put them down.

I LOVE this series, but didn’t read that last one. I think after the one before that, I had to take a break, because I was growing really disappointed with the series as a whole. With the release of Deadlocked, I think I am eager to pick the series back up and see how Charlaine Harris is going to bring this act to a close. Sookie Stackhouse was absolutely a key pivotal series in setting me down my UF obsession and I miss her world.

I didn’t read the last one either. I was so disappointed in the book before last that I did not bother. But I love this series and if the advance reviews are right, it looks like the old Sookie is back! Time to catch up!
