I Need Your Help

January 25, 2013 General 21

Ok, one of my personal resolutions was to start a few series that I’ve been meaning to read for so very long.  The problem is, I don’t know which one to start first!  They all look so good; they get such love from bloggers I trust.  I need your help….which one should I start next month?

Half-human and half-Wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the Wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful—and passionate—of the Elder Races.

As the most feared and respected of the Wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they’ve ignited in each other.

Pia knows she must repay Dragos for her trespass, but refuses to become his slave—although she cannot deny wanting him, body and soul.

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

My name is Gin, and I kill people.

They call me the Spider. I’m the most feared assassin in the South — when I’m not busy at the Pork Pit cooking up the best barbecue in Ashland. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. My Ice magic also comes in handy for making the occasional knife. But I don’t use my powers on the job unless I absolutely have to. Call it professional pride.

Now that a ruthless Air elemental has double-crossed me and killed my handler, I’m out for revenge. And I’ll exterminate anyone who gets in my way — good or bad. I may look hot, but I’m still one of the bad guys. Which is why I’m in trouble, since irresistibly rugged Detective Donovan Caine has agreed to help me. The last thing this coldhearted killer needs when I’m battling a magic more powerful than my own is a sexy distraction…especially when Donovan wants me dead just as much as the enemy.

In a world where being of mixed-blood is a major liability, Sabina Kane has the only profession fit for an outcast: assassin. But, her latest mission threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races and Sabina must scramble to figure out which side she’s on. She’s never brought her work home with her—until now.

This time, it’s personal.

What do you think?  Have you read any of these?

Which one should I start first?

i would say thea harrison one, i loved the first book ( then i loved less though)
jennifer estep one i haven’t started yet either

i had some trouble with jaye wells..; i didn’t finish it ( will do but at teh moment not for me)

  2. Julie

Well crap. Could you make it any more difficult? lol
I think the deciding factor here will be romance. If you are in the mood to read a book with a really strong story AND great romance, then Dragon Bound it is. It’s the only one on your list that is a true romance book.
If not-so-much romance is your thing right now, I’d go Spider’s Bite. The writing is a bit repetitive but the story is great and the characters are incredible.
So there you go. My two cents 😉

  3. Roger Simmons

I have read Jaye Wells, Jennifer Estep & Stacia Kane. Liked all three. Would recommend Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series.

  4. Chelsea / Vampire Book Club

I’ve read them all. Like Julie said, the deciding factor is heat level romance. If you want a strong, sweep-you-away romance, go with Dragon Bound. it’s one I put off for a long time, and then DEVOURED.

However, seeing as the Downside Ghosts series is one of my all-time favorites, I’d be remiss if I didn’t say read UNHOLY GHOSTS. It’s unlike anything you’ve read before. Very clever worldbuilding, but also very, very dark. There is the sexy here, too, but it’s urban fantasy.

Ok so Unholy Ghosts is on my “To Read” shelf so I can’t speak to that one 🙂

I love Thea Harrison’s series (though I have 2 books behind).

I love Gin Blanco and can’t wait for the next book in that series.

  6. Mervi

I would recommend Red-Headed Stepchild. I’ve read the whole series and it’s great.

Spider’s Bite is good, but after the third book I just had to take a break from the series because the writing is really repetitive.

Dragon Bound is on my TBR pile, too. 🙂

  7. Stella (Ex Libris)

Start the Jennifer Estep one, for me the Thea Harrison series was a bit disappointing 🙁 I still have Stacia Kane’s series on my TBR list as well

Let us know what you chose and how you like it!

  8. Sam Dailey

I loved reading Red Headed Stepchild and can’t wait to delve into the rest of the series. Both Unholy Ghosts and Spider’s Bite are on my to-read list. They all sound like interesting reads, so I’m sorry I can’t help much on the decisions. You could always try closing your eyes and picking one at random. It could work.

  9. Sophie

Either Unholy Ghosts or Spiders Bite, two of my favourite series!

Unholy Ghosts might take a bit to get into (mostly because of the slang) but once you get your head around it you’ll not be able to put it down!

Spiders Bite on the other hand grabbed me from the first page! Either way you’re in for a great time!

Couldn’t you have listed at least three UNpopular series, so our ‘job’ would be easier? 😉

I say roll the dice – you can’t go wrong no matter which one you start next! 🙂

  11. Timitra

I haven’t read any of these but they all sound really good…I’d start with the Thea Harrison books!

  12. Braine

I’ve only read Downside so that’s my vote however if you want to start Estep let me know, I’d love to read along with you. I got the first 5 books 😀

  13. Barbara Elness

I would definitely say Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series. It’s my favorite series, I love it. I’ve read most of Jaye Wells’ and the first two of Thea Harrison’s series and I recommend them as well, but I’d go with Jennifer Estep’s.

  14. Melliane

The only one I read interely is the Jaye Wells one but I loved it! I think every series is a good choice.

I’ve been meaning to try Thea Harrison’s Elder Races books. 😀 Jennifer Estep’s Gin Blanco/Elemental Assassin books are really good fun. And Stacia Kane’s books were a bit too dark for my taste, but there was nothing amiss with the writing. 🙂

I’m reading Elemental Assassin series right now. Can be a bit repetitive but I like the characters.
